How To Install The Deployment Web Console on a Windows 2008-based Deployment Server

Article: 20000029

Applies to: Release 3.82 or greater

Additional steps are required to install the Deployment Web Console on a Deployment Server running Windows Server 2008. During the RDP installation, the Deployment Web Console selections will be available when the Deployment Server is Windows Server 2008 x86, even if the below "Before RDP installation" steps are not completed. However, the Web Server Console will not be available. For the x86 operating system, these steps can be completed after the RDP installation. For the x64 operating system, these steps must be completed before the RDP installation, in order for the Deployment Web Console selections to be available.

To install the Deployment Web Console on a Deployment Server running Windows Server 2008
1. Before the RDP installation, add the Web Server (IIS) role using the Server Manager. When prompted to Add Features required for Web Server (ISS), choose Add Required Features.
2. Add the following Role Services in addition to the Web Server (ISS) defaults:
Under Application Development, select ASP .NET. When prompted to Add roles services and features required for ASP .NET, choose Add Required Role Services.
Under Application Development, select ISAPI Extensions.
Under Application Development, select ISAPI Filters.
Under Application Development, select .NET Extensibility.
Under Security, select Windows Authentication.
Under Management Tools and ISS 6 Management Console, select IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility.
Required for only Linux deployments, under FTP Publishing Service, select FTP Server.
3. Install RDP. If installing RDP 3.82, you will need to download and apply Altiris Deployment Solution 6.9 SP2 after the RDP installation. For more information, refer to Altiris Knowledgebase (Article 44109).
4. After the RDP installation to allow ASP.NET 1.1 to run on the Web Server, open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and select your Deployment Server.
5. Under IIS Manager, open ISAPI and CGI Restrictions and select ASP.NET v1.1.4322.
6. In the Actions pane, select Allow.
7. To add the DSWeb application to the ASP and NET 1.1 application pool, open IIS Manager and navigate to Sites > Default Web Site > DSWeb.
8. In the Actions pane, open Basic Settings.
9. Edit the Application Pool by clicking Select and selecting the ASP .NET 1.1 application pool.
