HP further extends the breakthrough capabilities of the Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition with a free firmware upgrade that delivers Virtual Floppy Drive support. Using the new Virtual Floppy Drive, an administrator can easily direct a remote server to boot and use a floppy diskette from anywhere on the network. The Virtual Floppy Drive saves time and increases administrator efficiency by eliminating the need to visit a server just to insert and use a floppy diskette.
Customers who are running Firmware 2.11 or earlier on their Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition can easily upgrade their card with a simple firmware update available at http://www.compaq.com/lights-out. The Remote Insight Floppy Image Utility is also available for free download at http://www.compaq.com/lights-out.
Key Features
- Remotely boot any HP ProLiant with a Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition from a 1.44MB floppy diskette (Windows 95, 98, DOS) from any network client (via a standard web browser). Never travel to a server just to insert and boot a floppy again!
- Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition provides full text and graphics remote console control during a remote floppy session
- Quickly and easily capture image files of floppy diskettes using the free HP Diskette Image Utility (utility works with Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000 network clients). Diskette image files can be easily saved for later/repeated use on a network share or network client hard drive.
- Once a remote server has booted from the virtual floppy drive, additional diskettes can be 'inserted' into the virtual floppy drive and used (one at a time) like a normal floppy drive.
- Virtual Floppy Drive activities are managed through the easy-to-use web browser interface for the Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition.
- Latest firmware upgrade also adds a new remote firmware update capability to the Remote Insight Lights-Out Edition which will enable future firmware upgrades for the card to be installed and activated remotely.
The HP Diskette Image Utility enables an administrator to quickly and easily create a floppy image file to use with the Virtual Floppy Drive.
