Improves server performance and availability

One such feature that improves availability is Fast Path Failover. Using Root Path Cost networking technique, INP determines the fastest path to the appropriate network switch to improve network performance and availability by identifying network path degradation.

Additionally, it allows ProLiant servers to adapt to networking failures by failing over to an alternative network path. The drawing that follows describes the benefits of this capability further.

Before: Network slowdown without INP installed

After: With Fast Path Failover, the server uses the fastest path to the network core

Predictable performance and access to key network nodes

Active path failover, another feature of INP, using Echo Node networking technique, allows periodic checks of network path connections to layer 2 or layer 3 destinations and allows the intermediate driver to make decisions about preferred primary paths based on destination rather than local bandwidth or traffic flow.

Additionally, it allows network traffic to bypass blocked paths, finds the route with the most bandwidth, and provides failover options to virtually eliminate internal network downtime, thus improving network performance and availability. The drawing below further depicts the benefits of active path failover capability.

Failover to the open path to the network core restores server access for all network clients except for those connected to Switch A.

Leverage key characteristics of viruses to slow their spread across servers

The Virus Throttle feature, developed by HP Labs, constantly monitors network traffic for virus-like activity to slow and limit the rate of connections to "new" machines, thus slowing down the spread of viruses while not affecting normal server usage.
