Your Foundation Pack contains the software you need to get your ProLiant server out of the box, set up, fully configured and loaded with your choice of operating system and managed within your IT infrastructure. Optional Insight software may be purchased to supplement your Foundation Pack in order to extend your management capabilities. Besides fixed quantity multi-license packs, other volume choices described on this page are available for purchase.

Activation Key Agreements (AKA) are for customers who plan a volume purchase of Insight software over time, typically in conjunction with new ProLiant servers that are acquired on a regular basis. AKA customers appreciate having a single, master activation key for each Insight software product of interest that they can use company-wide, department-wide, or within a single site. A special tracking license part number for each product is available from HP, which is the item to be purchased whenever an AKA customer uses a license. The basic steps for an AKA include:
- Establish a new (or amend an existing) AKA contract directly with HP for Insight software.
- Upon signature, receive an activation key for each product of interest.
- Purchase a tracking license for a product whenever you want to use it on a target platform, such as a new server.
- For tracking licenses that include HP services, register for technical support and software updates (visit the HP Insight software website and refer to the related information section)
- Utilize your master activation key to activate a product on the target platform.
Repeat steps 3) through 5) for as long as your contract is active and you want to use Insight software on new platforms you acquire. Note that in step 3) there are no materials delivered to you for purchases of tracking licenses; once you submit your purchase order, you can immediately proceed to step 4).
AKAs are conducted on a contract basis with the active involvement of the HP account manager as well as HP Contracts group. If you are interested, existing sales contracts with HP can be amended to include Insight software product AKA terms and conditions. Contact your account manager or submit an AKA request form for more information on this program.
HP offers only select Insight software products within the provisions of the AKA program. These include:

- Insight Control suite for Linux
- Integrated Lights-Out Advanced
- Integrated Lights Out Advanced for BladeSystem
- Insight Power Manager software
- Lights-Out 100i Advanced
- Insight Rapid Deployment software
- Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager
- Insight Virtual Machine Manager software for ProLiant
- Insight Dynamics - VSE suite for ProLiant
- Insight Recovery
- Insight Orchestration
Ideal environment
The Activation Key Agreement is appropriate for customers who:
- Desire simple software licensing: one key per product for all licenses subsequently purchased over time; the key may be used worldwide.
- Want the least amount of physical deliverables: only a few sets of installation media and documentation are provided upon contract signature; there are no deliverables associated with the tracking licenses.
- Have a large and rapidly growing ProLiant server infrastructure on which Insight software will be used.
- Want to add Insight software licenses as line items to standard ProLiant configurations purchased regularly from HP or HP partners.
- Want to add Insight software to existing ProLiant sales contracts with HP.
Flexible quantity kits are ways to obtain an exact, desired quantity of licenses delivered inside one kit for a Insight software product. When a flexible quantity kit is purchased, the quantity requested on your purchase order will be used to generate and enclose a single entitlement for that exact quantity of licenses. Note that any license quantity can be purchased at a time up to a maximum quantity of 50,000 for a single order. The advantage to you is you have much less materials goods to receive and process and, upon completion of the entitlement redemption process, you have one license activation key to use for all the licenses in your order.
Ideal environment
The flexible quantity kit is appropriate for customers who:
- Need to do a one-time purchase of Insight software for current ProLiant installed base
- Purchase quantities of new ProLiant servers about every quarter and need an equivalent number of software licenses to match the amount of servers purchased
- Want to curtail the number of license activation keys in use
- Want to minimize physical deliverables: need just a license key per quantity of licenses purchased at any given time
HP is making available electronic license to use (E-LTU) options for software products in limited regions of the world and through select points of sale, Insight software E-LTU choices are very similar to flexible quantity kits except there is no physical delivery involved. Instead, at the time you place your order with HP, you provide an e-mail address to which an electronic receipt is sent by HP. Within the receipt is a link where you can access your license entitlement and complete the redemption process for your license activation keys. E-Delivery is the fastest means for you to obtain the HP Insight software licenses that you need without any packaging materials to have to discard and impact the environment. Licenses delivered electronically have the same terms of use and functionality as well as any included HP services as those delivered physically.
When E-LTU entitlements are redeemed, you will have the opportunity to download, as appropriate, the latest product image to use with your license activation keys. Another option is to purchase an HP media kit separately for the product. Take note that if you order E-LTUs together with hardware products, like servers or options, HP will not send you the electronic receipts for the E-LTUs until the ordered hardware is ready to ship.
In the event E-LTUs are not available in your region or through your preferred point of sale, please order one of the physical delivery options instead.
Ideal environment
Electronic license delivery is appropriate for customers who:
- Need very fast order fulfillment
- Prefer no physical packaging materials to dispose of
- Otherwise qualify for the flexible quantity kit criteria above
